Tricia D. Goostree
Founder and Attorney
Tricia D. Goostree knew from an early age that she wanted to pursue a career in law. By the age of ten, she had already set her sights on becoming an attorney. That goal became even more defined while she attended Eastern Illinois University, where she joined the mock trial team and discovered that litigation was a natural fit for both her abilities and professional ambitions.
Tricia went on to attend the John Marshall Law School on a Dean’s Scholarship. While in law school, she developed a strong reputation as both a written and oral advocate. She won the Dean Fred F. Herzog Moot Court Competition, received a scholarship from the Moot Court Executive Board, and competed in regional and interstate moot court competitions. These experiences helped sharpen the advocacy skills that would later become a central part of her family law practice.
Her early legal experience included an internship with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in the consumer fraud division, as well as work as a Supreme Court Rule 711 clerk with the Chicago Legal Clinic. It was through the clinic that Tricia began building the family law focus that would ultimately define her career. She assisted clients with divorce cases, Orders of Protection, and child support enforcement while making regular appearances in the Cook County Domestic Relations division. After two years of practice in Cook County, she expanded her work into Kane, DuPage, Kendall, and DeKalb counties, earning the respect of judges, fellow attorneys, and opposing counsel.
Since 2002, Tricia has devoted her practice exclusively to family law and domestic relations. She represents clients in matters involving complex financial issues, maintenance, contested parenting disputes, custody litigation, and appeals. Throughout more than two decades of practice, she has approached each case with determination, candor, and compassion, whether negotiating a resolution or advocating in court. She is particularly experienced in matters involving challenging legal questions, heightened emotions, and significant consequences for families. Having grown up in a small town before moving to Chicago to pursue her career, Tricia brings a practical and personal perspective to her representation and is able to connect with clients from a wide range of backgrounds.
In addition to her legal practice, Tricia has remained committed to serving both the profession and her community. She served for four years on the board of directors of Prairie State Legal Services, volunteered with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, and provided pro bono legal representation to individuals in need. Through the Kane County Bar Association & Foundation, she served for three years as the high school mock trial coordinator, chaired the Admissions and Membership Committee, and participated on the Public Relations Committee. She has also presented at numerous continuing legal education seminars, sharing her experience with other members of the legal community.
Tricia’s work has earned her recognition throughout her career. In 2005, she received the only “Rising Star” award ever presented by the Kane County Family Law Committee. She has been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer for twelve consecutive years, recognized as an Illinois Leading Lawyer each year since 2015, and named a Best Lawyer since 2019. She has also received recognition as an Elite Lawyer since 2018.
As the founder and managing partner of Goostree Law Group, P.C. in St. Charles, Illinois, Tricia continues to lead a firm focused exclusively on family law. Outside of her practice, she enjoys baseball, competitive bodybuilding, traveling, and exploring new places with her husband.
